Power plant explosion near Georgia power plant leaves one dead

A power plant explosion on Friday left one dead, leaving at least nine others injured.

It happened at the Georgia Power Plant in Greenbrier, Ga., the state’s fourth largest, which produces electricity for more than half the state.

A Georgia Power spokesman said the plant exploded about 11:30 a.m. and was evacuated.

The plant is part of a regional power grid.

No injuries were reported.

The Georgia Department of Transportation and Public Works tweeted that the plant was evacuated after the blast.

Authorities say there were no other injuries.
