Nuclear power plant in eastern Ukraine destroyed

A nuclear power plant near the village of Makiivka in eastern Ukrainian has been destroyed by heavy shelling.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said on Friday that the facility had been hit by two shells on the morning of Wednesday, May 20, as it was being dismantled.

It was the second time in two weeks that the unit in question had been destroyed in shelling.

Ukrainian government spokesman Andriy Lysenko confirmed that the plant was damaged and said that an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the explosion.
