The power plant exploded on Monday, killing at least five people and injuring at least 12 others.
The blast took place just after 6 a.m. in a warehouse in the city of Hubei, a popular tourist destination.
Hubei province has reported dozens of power plant accidents in recent years, but this one appeared to be unique.
The explosion was not caused by the explosion of a gas leak, the state-run Xinhua news agency said, but by a fuel leak from a compressor unit.
The cause of the explosion was still unknown.
The state-owned China Daily reported that several buildings were damaged in the blast, which also caused extensive damage to nearby buildings.
The area was closed off for more than two hours as officials investigated the cause of Saturday’s explosion.
